Help support urgent medical research!
All it takes are a few moments of your day to tell us how you are feeling.
This study is primarily focused on how smell and taste is affected by COVID-19 infections. What is anosmia?Anosmia, the loss of smell, is a well known symptom caused by the novel coronavirus.
Recent studies have suggested that up to 60% of people infected with this virus end up having at least a partial loss of their smell or taste at some point during their infection.
In many, these issues tend to run their course and resolve.
In others, however, smell and taste loss can be long lasting and even become permanent.
What is the purpose of this study? Our goal is to learn more about the different types of experiences people are having with nose related issues during the course of their infection.
A greater understanding of this will allow clinicians to better manage COVID patients and predict future outbreaks.Who is this app aimed towards? We are primarily asking anyone who has had or is currently experiencing smell or taste related issues to submit questionnaires about their experience.
Those that are still having symptoms can also use the app to track them over time.
This app may also be used by anyone who believes they are experiencing any type of COVID-related symptoms, whether or not you have actually been tested.
The analytics used in this app are primarily targeted towards ear, nose, and throat related issues. What does this app do?One part of this app is to collect general information about your health and your COVID-related experiences, along with a "symptom quiz" to describe other symptoms in detail.
You can then fill out a shortened daily version of this report to let us know how are feeling.
The other part of the app is a symptom tracker that you can use to visualize how severe your symptoms are and to easily track them over time. What does this app NOT do?This app does not give medical advice nor is it a tool to diagnose your ailments.
If you have questions about your health, please ask a certified medical professional or visit the CDCs website.Your PrivacyAll the questions asked in this study cannot be used to identify who you are.
This app was built purely for research purposes as a way to contribute to the growing knowledge base of this novel infection.
No information you provide us will ever be used for marketing purposes.
This application also cannot track your location or movements in realtime.
Your location is requested once in order to build a geographic map of all those affected, which may be used to predict future outbreaks.
At any time you would like to remove yourself from the study, you can go to the options setting and deactivate your account.Who is leading this study?Dr.
Aykut Unsal, the designer and developer of the app, is Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He has a background in Computer Science and is a fellowship-trained specialist in the field of Rhinology, the study of disorders of the nose and sinuses.
